Recording Information

Postdating all the symphonies, Dvorak's symphonic poems are substantial works (the shortest, ''The Water Goblin,'' runs 20 minutes), imaginatively conceived and deftly orchestrated. Offering three of the four pieces Dvorak based on ballads by Karl Jaromir Erben, Vernon Handley conducts attentive, caring performances; the Swedish orchestra acquits itself more than honorably, and the recorded sound is vivid.
